The Cherry City Volunteer Fire Company (CCVFC) was organized on October 6th, 1919
with a roll of 41 active members.  Cherry City was the third volunteer fire company to be
incorporated in Shaler Township.
The First Officers of the Company were as follows:

President……………………………………………………Louis Hunt
Vice President……………………………………………...Edward Klein
Secretary……………………………………………………August Sallach
Treasurer…………………………………………………...John Hemmerlin
Chief……………………………………………………...….Fred C. Mehringer
Captain………………………………………………………George Swope
Lieutenant…………………………………………………..John Koslosky

The company was given the old Seavey School building frame.  It was dismantled and re-
erected in a lot at the corner of Parker Street and Koehler Street.  All work was completed
by the membership of the company.

After the building was erected, the members purchased an old horse-drawn carriage from
the Borough of Etna and reconfigured it to a hand-drawn carriage.  This was the first
“apparatus” of Cherry City and it was equipped with chemical extinguishers, ladders,
buckets and other equipment to serve the company.

Below are web page links to a time line history of apparatus and equipment purchases that
were made throughout the existence of Cherry City VFC.  Hope you enjoy!
